Commissioned by The Liberty of Norton Folgate, I created Horizon, a site-specific installation for London Design Festival. Inspired by the calming movements of a tranquil lake, Horizon is an enclave of hand-dyed natural cotton rope designed to give a contrasting softness to the sharp industrial architecture of the coffee house. The ropes slowly sway with visitors’ movements to reveal a depth of gradient colour. The intention is for visitors to feel a momentary disconnect from the aggressive, jolting cityscape. At night, LED down lighting will cast playful shadows, feathering the pavement with the movement of the rope as the air circulates in the space. A range of prints and sketches mirroring the theme of calmness will also be featured within the space during LDF.
